About the Authors

Before they met, Matthew and Jamie each had thousands of nautical miles under their keels.

As a kid, Jamie spent summers with her family gunkholing the Puget Sound aboard a San Juan 21: hanking on the jib without life lines, cranking up the centerboard, and pondering the mechanical voodoo of the 1960s-era British Seagull. After college, Jamie eagerly stepped into skippering her own 27′ sloop and went full Sleepless in Seattle in her single years, tying her sailboat alongside her modern-urban housebarge in the shadow of the Space Needle.

Matthew came to sailing by way of Australia and his undergrad years in New England. His giant size, calm demeanor, deep chuckle, and skilled reputation as a yacht broker specializing in world cruising catamarans and trimarans precedes him. If you’ve ever met Matthew, you are unlikely to forget him.

Once Jamie dared Matthew to a sailing date over a pint at the Harbour Pub on Bainbridge Island, the rest was history and the knot was tied…a hitch of course. Now a family of 3, we can think of no better place to spend our quality time here on earth together, adventuring by sea.
