Ahoy! We are an intrepid family of 3 seasoned Pacific Northwest mariners who have spent years exploring and cruising the Salish Sea from the Puget Sound to SE Alaska by catamaran. Thanks to solid wireless internet, our virtual-office careers, and a lifetime of nautical experience, we’ve made a happy, rewarding life exploring the Inside Passage.
Here we share our sailing pictures, NW cruising tips, and real stories of the PNW places savored by locals and worldwide cruisers alike.
Reminder About Safety
Please enjoy our content in context and make smart choices about your own boating skill level. Safe boating practices and basic etiquette are critical for everyone on the water. Don’t be a jerk. Much like driving a vehicle on the freeway, personal awareness of how to safely operate a vessel within the rules of the road is paramount to minimizing the chances of tragedy for yourself and everyone around you. Boating itself is inherently risky and all mariners are at the mercy of Mother Nature, Neptune, and innocent ignorance. Dangers abound and local knowledge paired with up-to-date nautical charts are a must. We take safety very seriously here aboard Awesome, especially as a family. Jamie and Matthew wield a solid base of formal sailing education and a multitude of safety rituals, honed by years of experience, coupled with a deep respect for wind, weather, and tides. Yet we still are humbled by the sea and the voodoo of outboards (seriously…wtf). We use our fundamental safety skills every day and are constantly vigilant about our safety procedures to keep incidental bad luck from turning into anything more than just ego-bruising adventures in character building.
